The Maritime Education Initiative

The Friends of Maritime, a not for profit group of northwest maritime leaders, is happy to announce the establishment of the Maritime Education Initiative!

Together with the community, we will educate Northwest families and youth about the vibrant and vital role of the maritime industry in the Pacific Northwest.

The Maritime Education Initiative provides classes and tours in global trade, transportation, fisheries and the rich maritime history of Seattle at the Maritime Event Center’s renowned high-tech, high-touch maritime museum. It funds the following programs:

  1. MEC Monday Discovery Tours: Starting in October 2009, 6500 2nd-4th grade students a year to travel to, and attend, classes and tours at the MEC for FREE. Learn more here or make a reservation
  2. Families and children to gain FREE admittance to dozens of educational days and community events. Learn more here.
